Parade Float Frequently Asked Questions

What is a float?

Floats are a popular attraction of many parade events in the United States. They are creative moving displays that represent the parade theme or your own idea. They can take many forms and there are a lot of possible ways to build one; in the past, floats have included trailers, lawnmower/boat trailers, large wagons, the backs of pick-up trucks, decorated vehicles, etc. Use your imagination or a quick internet search; there are many creative ideas and floats do not have to be difficult or complicated to make.

Who can build a float for the Camillus Memorial Day Parade?
We invite any individual, family, neighborhood group, community organization, business, church, school, youth group, etc. to enter a float in this year's parade.

What are some good reasons to build a float?
In addition to commemorating Memorial Day and honoring military members who gave their lives in service to our nation, building a float can bring together members of your business or group. It can be a great way for companies to boost employee morale by working on a fun and meaningful project together. Also, this is a great way to advertise a business/organization to the community; Camillus has one of the biggest and most well-attended parades in Onondaga County. This year, prizes of $500, $300 and $200 will be awarded for first, second, and third place floats respectively.
